Nepse tanks 53.70 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its losing streak for a second straight session on Sunday, losing 53.70 points to close at 2,097.29 points.

The benchmark index has recorded a loss of 89.07 points over the past two sessions after gaining 135.59 points in the four preceding sessions.

The market opened for trading at 2,154.8 points. Although it briefly gained, it experienced a continuous decline thereafter to end the 2.5% lower.

Out of the 225 scrips traded on the day, only 18 posted gains, while the remaining ended the day in red.

Himalayan Life Insurance Company Ltd was the most traded stock of the day, with shares worth Rs 425.65 million traded. Next on the list were Shivam Cement and Soaltee Hotel Limited with turnovers of Rs 275.56 million and Rs 208.65 million, respectively.

All trading groups ended the day in red, with the Microfinance Index experiencing the maximum loss of 4.75%. Following closely were the Development Bank and Hydropower sub-indices, which fell by 3.48% and 3.15%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 5.98 billion were traded in the bourse on Sunday. The total market capitalization reached Rs 3.07 trillion.
