Nepse stretches gains to third session; turnover rises to Rs 4.05 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its winning streak into a third consecutive session, gaining 5.7 points to close at 2,625.70 on Wednesday.

While the benchmark index moved into green territory immediately after trading began and maintained its position for most of the session, the market experienced a notable bout of volatility toward the end of the session. Selling pressure in the final minutes dragged the index to an intra-day low of 2,619.52 before a late-stage recovery ensured the market finished with a modest gain of 0.21%.

Market breadth remained positive as unit prices of 143 scrips advanced, 104 declined, and 11 remained unchanged. Trading activity saw a healthy uptick with turnover improving to Rs 4.05 billion. A total of 8.59 million units changed hands through 58,096 transactions on Wednesday.

Union Hydropower Ltd topped the turnover chart with Rs 227.85 million worth of shares traded. Following closely were Manjushree Finance Ltd and Ngadi Group Power Ltd with turnovers of Rs 137.65 million and Rs 114.97 million, respectively.

Sectoral performance reflected the broader market, with 10 out of 13 indices ending the day in positive territory. The Finance sub-index posted the biggest gain of 1.75%. Development Bank and Life Insurance sub-indices were up 0.71% and 0.66%, respectively.
