KATHMANDU: The market extended its gaining streak for a third straight session, as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index went up by 94.53 to close trading at 2,860.91 points on Sunday.
Although Nepse index breached the psychological 2,800-point level many times in the past few sessions, it finally settled above 2,800 points on Sunday.
The benchmark index has posted gains since posting a loss of a whopping 5.18% last Tuesday. Nepse was up by 4.08% on Wednesday and a nominal 0.24% on Thursday.
Share prices of 225 companies went up on the day while 15 declined and two remained unchanged. As many as 17 companies saw their shares trade at the positive circuit level of 10% during the session. Most of them were hydropower companies.
Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Shivam Cement were the most sought-after stocks as both registered turnovers of over a billion rupees. Himalayan Reinsurance logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 1.52 billion worth of shares traded. Next were Shivam Cement and Nepal Infrastructure Bank Ltd with turnovers of Rs 1.16 billion and Rs 682.78 million, respectively.
All trading groups ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Life Insurance sub-index which was up by 4.55%. Next were Microfinance and Investment sub-indices with gains of 4.4% and 4.1%, respectively. Market heavyweight Banking sub-index ended 3.35% higher.
Daily turnover hit a record Rs 25.77 billion with 60.32 million units of shares traded through 275,207 transactions. Market capitalization also reached an all-time high of Rs 4.54 trillion.
