KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped its two-day losing streak on Thursday, the last trading day of the week, closing above the key psychological support level of 2,800 points amid broad-based buying across the market.

Although the index dipped initially, it recovered and hit an intra-day high of 2,830.28 points. The index pared some gains as the session progressed, but still ended in the green.

The index recovered from losses in the past two sessions, gaining 23.87 points, or 0.85%, to close at 2,820.44. The index had fallen by 32.08 points and 46.78 points, respectively, after posting a sharp gain of 162.93 points on Monday, the first trading session following the election, when multiple positive circuit breakers were triggered.

Thursday’s session saw strong market participation, with unit prices of 176 stocks advancing, 77 declining, and 9 remaining unchanged. Total turnover improved to Rs 14.55 billion, with 41.68 million units traded through 130,015 transactions.

National Hydropower Company Ltd topped the turnover chart, with Rs 677.94 million in shares traded. Next were Hydroelectricity Investment Development Company (Promoter shares) and Kumari Bank Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 568.36 million and Rs 447.65 million, respectively.

Among sectoral indices, three posted nominal gains, while the remaining 10 ended the session in the green. Banking recorded the biggest gain of 2.02%. Next were Finance and Development Bank sub-indices with gains of 1.3% and 1.28%, respectively.
