Nepse snaps three-day winning run, closes 19.42 points lower

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a three-day winning run on Sunday and closed the first trading day of the week 19.42 points lower at 2,010.35 points.

The market opened for trading at 2,029.42 points but immediately took a dip. Although the benchmark index tried to recover, reaching an intra-day high of 2,036.81, it lost momentum and ultimately ended the day 0.95% lower.

Share prices of 166 scrips declined on the day, while 62 advanced and three remained unchanged.

Machhapuchhre Bank Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day with Rs 132.49 million worth of shares traded. Next on the list were Surya Nepal Life Insurance Company Ltd and Shivam Cements with turnovers of Rs 97.36 million and Rs 91.29 million, respectively.

Except for the Microfinance sub-index, which posted nominal gains of 0.99%, all sub-indices posted losses on the day. The maximum loss came from the Finance sub-index, which went down by 1.98%. Following closely were Hydropower and Trading sub-indices, which fell by 1.81% each.

Shares worth Rs 2.32 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday.
