Nepse snaps three-day losing run; turnover falls to Rs 5.09 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) snapped a three-day losing run and closed trading 11.58 points higher at 2,588.35 points on Sunday, the first trading day of the week.

Although the benchmark index breached the 2,600-point level and reached an intraday high of 2,643.38 points within minutes of the beginning of trading, it erased most of the gains and ended the session 0.44% higher.

Share prices of 138 companies advanced on the day, while 95 declined and 11 remained unchanged. Likewise, the share prices of the three companies hit a positive circuit of 10%.

CEDB Hydropower Company continued to top the chart in terms of turnover, with Rs 278.02 million worth of shares traded. Next were NLG Insurance Ltd and Nepal Finance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 146.98 million and Rs 129.71 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, five posted losses while the remaining eight closed the session in green. The biggest loss came from the Hotels & Tourism sub-index, which was down by 0.61%, while Banking posted the highest gain of 1.01%.

Shares worth Rs 5.09 billion were traded on the bourse through 72,957 transactions on Sunday, the lowest since July 1.
