KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a three-day losing run and closed the session 16.29 points higher at 2,053.38 points on Monday.
Although the benchmark index dipped initially, it started posting gains about an hour into the trading and continued the momentum throughout the session to eventually end the day 0.80% higher.
Share prices of 176 companies advanced on the day, while 60 declined and 11 remained unchanged. Nepal Finance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 191.32 million traded. Next were NRN Infrastructure and Development Janaki Finance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 118.57 million and Rs 97.69 million traded.
Among trading groups, Banking led the way with a 2.04% gain. Development Bank and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices also ended the session 1.31% and 0.8% higher. Finance and Manufacturing & Processing, however, ended the session 0.83% and 0.21% lower.
Shares worth Rs 2.92 billion were traded on the bourse through 44,169 transactions on Monday. The turnover is the lowest since May 8 when Rs 2.46 billion worth of securities were traded on the bourse.
