KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped its three-day losing streak on Sunday, the first trading session of the week, gaining 16.67 points.
The benchmark, which had fallen below the psychological 2,500-point mark in the previous session, managed to close above that threshold.
Nepse opened higher and maintained a positive trend throughout the day. Although it trimmed some gains after reaching an intraday high of 2,507.13 points, it closed the session 0.67% higher at 2,503.85 points.
Despite the recovery, overall market activity weakened. Turnover declined to Rs 2.79 billion, with 6.19 million units traded through 28,737 transactions. Of the traded scrips, 163 advanced, 78 declined and eight remained unchanged.
Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd led the turnover chart with shares worth Rs 281.09 million traded on Sunday. Himalayan Distillery Ltd (HDL) and Union Hydropower Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 253.65 million and Rs 169.7 million, respectively.
All but two sectoral sub-indices ended in positive territory. Mutual Fund and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices recorded marginal losses, while the Others sub-index posted the highest gain of 1.16%. The Trading and Manufacturing & Processing sub-indices each rose by 0.9%.
