KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped its three-day losing streak and closed marginally above the psychological support level of 2,600 points on Monday.
Although the benchmark index opened the session in negative territory, it gradually recovered as trading progressed and ended the day 6.74 points higher at 2,601.61 points.
In the previous session, the index had slipped below the 2,600-point mark, raising concerns among investors that bears had taken control of the market.
Market breadth, however, was positive, with unit prices of 155 scrips advancing, while 94 declined and 10 remained unchanged.
Ngadi Group Power Ltd led the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 142.56 million. Laxmi Sunrise Bank Ltd and Nepal SBI Bank Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 141.53 million and Rs 134.85 million, respectively.
Despite the rebound, overall trading activity remained subdued, with total turnover falling to Rs 3.44 billion. A total of 7.75 million units changed hands through 56,122 transactions.
Sector-wise, five trading groups ended the session in the red, while eight posted gains. The Finance group recorded the biggest gain of 0.9%, followed by the Banking group, which rose 0.72%.
