Nepse snaps six-day losing run, posts 78.17 points gain

KATHMANDU: The market snapped a six-day losing run as a buying spree in the last trading hour pushed the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index 78.17 higher to close the last trading day of the week at 2,688.38 points on Thursday.

The benchmark index slid right after the trading began to hit an intra-day low of 2,606.45 points. However, the market recovered thereafter and remained in positive territory. A buying spree in the last trading hours propelled the index close to the psychological 2,700-point level.

Unit prices of 229 scrips advanced on the day while 12 declined and three remained unchanged. Share prices of five companies hit the positive circuit of 10%, while six others posted gains of over 9%. CEDB Hydropower Company Ltd topped the list of companies in terms of turnover with Rs 476.5 million worth of shares traded. Next were Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd with turnovers of Rs 244.8 million and Rs 241.28 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, all trading groups, except for Mutual Fund which logged a nominal loss of 0.09%, posted gains. The biggest gain came from the Hydropower sub-index which was up by 4.24%. Next were the Others and Investment sub-indices with gains of 3.82% and 3.72%. The market heavyweight Banking group index posted gains of 2.66%.

Daily turnover improved to Rs 8.16 billion with 19.43 million units of scrips traded.
