KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) snapped its six-day gaining streak and went down by 27.32 points to close at 2,536.11 points on Wednesday.
The benchmark index initially posted gains and even breached the psychological 2,600-point mark at one time. However, it fell thereafter and eventually ended the session 1.06% lower.
Market analysts have termed Wednesday’s loss as a small correction after six days of gains. The benchmark index had gained over 320 points over the past six sessions.
Share prices of 194 companies declined on the day, while 46 advanced and two remained unchanged. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session, with Rs 360.74 million worth of shares changing hands. Next were Shivam Cement and Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 342.21 million and Rs 294.73 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, only two sub-indices posted gains while the remaining eleven ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Trading sub-index, which fell by 3.09%. Next were the Others and Hydropower sub-indices, with losses of 1.9% and 1.57%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 16.20 billion were traded on the bourse on Wednesday.
