Nepse snaps nine-day losing run; turnover at six-month high of Rs 14.28 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a nine-day gaining streak, closing 13.62 points lower at 2,876.66 points on Monday.

Although the index breached the psychological 2,900-point level during early trading, reaching an intra-day high of 2,926.62 points, it erased all the gains and eventually ended the session 0.47% lower.

Market analysts have termed the drop in Nepse index as minor correction after nine days of gains.

Unit prices of 187 scrips declined during the session, while 51 advanced and six remained unchanged. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 1.38 billion worth of shares traded. Next were Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd and Himalayan Distillery Ltd with turnovers of Rs 734.20 million and Rs 363.78 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, five posted gains while eight ended the session in the red. The biggest gain came from Others sub-index which was down by 1.68%. Similarly, Hotels & Tourism sub-index logged the highest loss of 1.88%.

Shares worth Rs 14.28 billion were traded on the bourse on Monday – the highest since August 27 last year when the bourse recorded turnover of Rs 18.46 billion.
