KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a five-day losing streak and posted a gain of 12.29 points to end the first trading session of the week at 1,984.43 points on Sunday.
Although the benchmark index logged initially, reaching an intra-day low of 1,953.38 points, it recovered thereafter and ended the session 0.62% higher.
Share prices of 176 companies went up on Sunday, while 63 declined, and six remained unchanged. Gurkhas Finance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day with shares worth Rs 102.13 million traded. Next were Sarbottam Cement and People’s Power Ltd with turnovers of Rs 78.82 million and Rs 71.92 million, respectively.
Except for Banking and Mutual Funds, all other trading groups ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Manufacturing & Processing group, which was up by 1.9%. Next were the Hydropower and Development Bank sub-indices with the growth of 1.15% and 1.08%, respectively. The market heavyweight Banking sub-index was down by 0.34%.
Shares worth Rs 2.26 billion were traded on the bourse through 47,117 transactions on Sunday.
