Nepse snaps losing run, gains 17.70 points

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index stopped snapped its losing run stretching three trading days, logging gains of 17.70 points to close at 1,906 points on Monday.

Trading opened on Monday with the benchmark index at 1885.65 points. The index lost value initially, hitting an intraday low of 1,865.75 points within an hour of trading. It, however, recovered the losses. Although the Nepse index dipped again, a recovery toward the close pushed it above the 1,900-point mark.

Prices of three companies – Super Mai Hydropower Ltd, Asian Hydropower Ltd and Kalinchowk Darshan Ltd hit the positive circuit of 10% on Monday. Himalayan Distillery Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day as shares worth Rs 59.08 million of the liquor maker traded hands on the day. Next on the list were Jeevan Bikas Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd and Nabil Bank Ltd with turnovers of Rs 47.03 million and Rs 40.58 million, respectively.

Except for Microfinance Index which was down by 0.51%, all other trading groups ended the day in green with the maximum gains coming from the Manufacturing & Processing index which was up by 2.35%. Next on the list were the Development Bank and Life Insurance indices which logged gains of 2.21% and 2.07%, respectively.

A total of 4.3 million scrips of 261 companies worth Rs 1.38 billion were traded through 36,980 transactions on the day. Total market capitalization reached Rs 2.76 trillion.
