Nepse snaps four-day losing run, closes 4.78 points higher

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) broke its four-day losing run, posting a marginal 4.78-point gain to close at 2,600.76 on Monday.

The benchmark index, which had dipped to an intra-day low of 2,585.08 points, rebounded later in the session to end 0.18% higher. Market sentiment showed mixed signals, with 123 companies advancing, 124 declining and one remaining unchanged.

Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day with Rs 521.85 million worth of shares traded. Butwal Power Company Ltd and Ngadi Group Power Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 421.76 million and Rs 336.06 million, respectively, highlighting sustained investor interest in the hydropower sector.

Out of 13 sectoral indices, seven ended in the green while six posted losses. The Trading sub-index led the gainers with a 2.2% rise, while the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index saw the steepest drop of 0.61%.

Market turnover fell by nearly one-third to Rs 6.47 billion compared to Sunday. A total of 17.58 million units changed hands through 70,831 transactions during the session.

Albeit a slow gain, the recovery in the Nepse index suggests tentative optimism returning to the market after a week of consistent declines.
