Nepse snaps four-day gaining streak; closes 17.18 points lower

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) went down by 17.18 points, ending trading at 2,240.41 points on Monday.

Market analysts have attributed Monday’s loss in the benchmark index to profit-booking by investors after four straight days of gains during which the index went up by 121.4 points.

Share prices of 184 companies declined on the day while 56 advanced and two remained unchanged. Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Ltd posted the highest gains of the session with shares worth Rs 370.87 million traded. Next were Nepal Infrastructure Bank Ltd and Janaki Finance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 219.89 million and Rs 191.54 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, four posted gains while nine were in the red. The biggest gain came from the Investment sub-index, which was up by 1.7%, while the Development Bank sub-index posted the biggest loss of 1.89%.

Shares worth Rs 8.73 billion were traded on the bourse through 102,372 transactions on Monday.
