KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) snapped a five-day losing streak and posted a gain of 22.75 points to end trading at 2,026.81 points on Sunday—the first trading day of the week.
Although the benchmark index was down in early trading, it recovered as the day progressed and eventually ended the session 1.13% higher.
Share prices of 190 companies went up on the day, while 48 declined, and seven remained unchanged. Unit prices of five scrips hit the positive circuit of 10%, reflecting positive sentiment in the secondary market.
Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd (Promoter Shares) registered the highest turnover of the day with Rs 952 million worth of shares traded. Next were Gurkhas Finance Ltd and Surya Jyoti Life Insurance Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 190.48 million and Rs 112.97 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, all groups, except Hotels & Tourism and Trading, posted gains. The biggest gain came from the Finance sub-index which was up by 5.95%. Next were the Development Bank and Manufacturing & Processing sub-indices which posted gains of 3.26% and 1.72%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 4.25 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday—the highest since March 12 when the market recorded turnover of Rs 4.53 billion.
