Nepse slips 5.54 points; turnover improves to Rs 6.47 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed 5.54 points lower at 2,635 points on Monday as the market opened for trading after a three-day gap.

Although the benchmark index posted gains initially, hitting an intraday high of 2,650.95 points, it pared all the gains as the session progressed and ultimately closed 0.2% lower.

Unit prices of 178 scrips declined during the session, while 75 advanced and seven remained unchanged. Despite the index’s loss, total turnover improved to Rs 6.47 billion with 12.3 million units traded through 78,808 transactions.

SY Panel topped the turnover chart with Rs 422.24 million worth of shares traded. Next were Radhi Bidyut Company and Manjushree Finance Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 315.79 million and Rs 278.13 million, respectively.

Among sectoral indices, four closed higher, while the remaining nine ended the session in the red. The biggest gain came from the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which rose by 1.02%. Similarly, the Trading sub-index logged the biggest loss of 1.16%.
