KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak on Monday, dropping by 47.71 points to close trading at 2,831.39 points.
With this, the benchmark index continued its bearish momentum after Sunday’s sharp 71.05-point fall. Although the index had recovered on Monday after an initial drop, hitting an intra-day high of 2,891.54 points, it pared all the gains as the session progressed and ultimately closed 1.65% lower.
Unit prices of 237 scrips declined, while only 26 advanced and five remained unchanged. This reflects broad-based selling pressure among investors.
Despite Nepse’s decline, unit prices of four scrips hit the positive circuit of 10% during the session. Likewise, three others posted gains of more than 9%.
Total turnover dropped to Rs 12.96 billion on Monday, with 31.6 million units traded through 159,328 transactions. For comparison, the bourse recorded a total turnover of Rs 15.03 billion on Sunday.
