KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed 13.35 points lower at 2,635.94 points on Tuesday.
The market remained volatile throughout the session. The benchmark index opened on a weaker note. Although it pared initial losses and climbed to an intra-day high of 2,654.51 points after an hour’s mark, it largely traded in negative territory thereafter before closing slightly above the day’s low.
Trading activity remained moderate. Total turnover stood at Rs 5.17 billion, with 10.63 million shares changing hands through 72,474 transactions. In total, 323 scrips were traded during the session.
Unit prices of 187 stocks declined, while only 62 advanced and 10 remained unchanged during the session, reflecting selling pressure on the bourse.
In terms of turnover, SY Panel led the market with transactions worth Rs 269.49 million. Shreenagar Agro Industries Ltd and Manjushree Finance Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 235.56 million and Rs 204.77 million, respectively.
Total turnover fell to Rs 5.17 billion with 10.63 units traded through 72,474 transactions.
All but Finance and Trading sub-indices, which posted nominal gains, ended the session in the red. Hotels & Tourism sub-index logged the biggest loss of 1.39%. Next were Manufacturing & Processing and Development Bank sub-indices with losses of 1.16% and 0.84%.
