KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index went down by 39.26 points to close at 2,049.44 points on Wednesday as the bourse failed to continue Tuesday’s momentum. The benchmark Nepse index had snapped a three-day losing streak to post a modest gain of 12.73 points on Tuesday.
The market opened for trading at 2,090.38 points on Wednesday and briefly crossed the psychological 2,100-point mark. However, it subsequently fell and eventually closed the day 1.88% lower.
All trading groups posted losses on the day, with the maximum loss coming from the Life Insurance sub-group, which fell by 3.31%. Next were the Non-life Insurance and Others sub-indices, which were down by 2.75% and 2.37%, respectively.
Shivam Cement recorded the highest turnover of the day, with 376,320 units of shares worth Rs 164.91 billion traded. Himalayan Life Insurance and Soaltee Hotel Limited were next, with turnovers of Rs 139.08 million and Rs 95.77 million, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 3.074 billion were traded on the secondary market through 53,103 transactions on Wednesday, showing a nominal improvement compared to Tuesday when shares worth Rs 2.55 trillion changed hands. The total market capitalization reached Rs 3 trillion.
