Nepse rises but turnover drops

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) snapped a three-day losing run and posted a nominal gain of 1.83 points, closing trading at 2,595.96 points on Wednesday.

Share prices of 124 companies advanced during the session, while 108 declined and 10 remained unchanged. NRN Infrastructure & Development Ltd posted the highest turnover of the session with Rs 324.94 million worth of shares traded. Next were Super Madi Hydropower Ltd and Sindhu Bikash Bank Ltd with turnovers of Rs 308.83 million and Rs 198.47 million, respectively.

Investors were after hydropower stocks during the session as Rs 2.87 billion worth of shares of different hydropower companies were traded on the bourse on Wednesday.

Among trading groups, seven posted gains, while six sub-indices ended the session in the red. The biggest gain came from the Hydropower sub-index which was up by 1.76%. The Finance sub-index, on the other hand, registered the highest loss of 3.48%.

Daily turnover, however, dropped to Rs 5.82 billion on Wednesday, compared to Rs 6.18 million on Tuesday, as 10.74 million units of securities changed hand through 63,374 transactions.
