KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) posted a nominal 5.10 points gain, closing trading on the first day of 2024 at 2,581.60 points on Wednesday.
Share prices of 150 companies advanced during the session, while 88 declined and four remained unchanged. NRN Infrastructure & Development logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 218.21 million worth of shares traded. Next were Janaki Finance Ltd and Trishuli Jal Vidyut Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 96.96 million and Rs 92.95 million, respectively.
Nine trading groups posted gains, and four ended the session in loss. The biggest loss came from the market heavyweight Banking sub-index, which was down by 0.72%. The finance sub-index, however, logged the biggest gain of 3.87%. Next were the Development Bank and Hydropower sub-indices, with gains of 1.68% and 1.24%, respectively.
Despite the gain, daily turnover fell to Rs 3.59 billion – the lowest since October 15.
