Nepse posts nominal gain; turnover down to Rs 8.81 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted a nominal gain of 5.82 points to close at 2,782.18 points on Thursday, the final trading day of the week, recovering slightly after a sharp decline in the previous session.

The benchmark index had tanked 74.73 points on Wednesday.

Despite the uptick in the index, market activity weakened. Total turnover fell significantly to Rs 8.81 billion, down from Rs 12.1 billion in the previous session, through 103,225 transactions on Thursday.

Market breadth remained negative as unit prices of 158 scrips declined, while only 98 advanced and 12 remained unchanged.

Unit prices of three scrips hit the 10% positive circuit, while three others posted gains above 9%. SY Panel (Nepal) Ltd topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 357.01 million. Ngadi Group Power Ltd and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 39.25 million and Rs 296.53 million.

Among trading groups, seven posted gains, while the remaining six closed the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Finance sub-index, which was down 0.87%. On the other hand, the Trading sub-index posted the highest gain of 2.53%.
