Nepse posts nominal 5.19-point gain as trading resumes after Tihar holidays

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted a nominal gain of 5.19 points on Sunday as trading resumed after a week-long break for the Tihar celebrations.

Although the benchmark remained in negative territory for much of the session, a late rally lifted it 0.2% higher, extending its winning streak to the second consecutive session.

Market activity was subdued, with turnover slipping to Rs 2.66 billion, as 5.59 million units changed hands through 27,899 transactions. Of the traded scrips, 146 declined, 98 advanced and four remained unchanged.

Nepal Reinsurance Company topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 324.96 million. SBL Debenture 2089 and Union Hydropower Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 236.46 million and Rs 187.03 million, respectively.

Among sectoral indices, eight ended in the red, while the remaining five closed higher. The Others sub-index posted the highest gain of 3.05%, whereas the Finance and Hotels & Tourism indices declined 0.72% and 0.57%, respectively.
