KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losses for the fourth straight day, dropping 29.71 points to close at 2,126.48 points on Thursday.
The market started the day on a positive note, gaining 10 points within a few minutes of trading. However, it began a downward trend as the day progressed and eventually ended the day 1.37% lower.
The benchmark Nepse index has lost over 100 points since Sunday, when the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) unveiled the monetary policy for the fiscal year 2023/24. The index had gained 63.24 points on Sunday.
All trading groups posted losses on the day, with the Trading sub-index experiencing the biggest decline of 2.65%. Following closely were the Finance and Others sub-indices, which were down by 2.23% and 2.12%, respectively.
In terms of turnover, Shivam Cement topped the list with shares worth Rs 105.76 million traded. Next on the list were Himalayan Life Insurance Company and Progressive Finance Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 83.66 million and Rs 68.07 million, respectively.
Share prices of only 16 scrips advanced on the day, while 193 declined, and nine remained unchanged.
A total of 6.27 million units of shares worth Rs 2.42 billion were traded on the secondary market on Thursday.
