Nepse loses 17.38 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index experienced some corrections on Monday, losing 17.38 points to close the day at 1,899.54 points.

The benchmark index gained 53.03 points on Sunday after the government clarified that it would not impose income tax on earnings from securities transactions. As a result, the Nepse index had logged heavy losses on the first two days after the budget speech.

The market opened for trading at 1,922.13 points. Although the Nepse index initially posted gains, reaching an intra-day high of 1,935.66 points within the first trading hour, it started to decline and eventually closed 0.91% lower.

All trading groups ended the day in the red, with the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index declining by 2.46%. Following that were the Trading and Others sub-indices, which fell by 1.67% and 1.51%, respectively.

Shivam Cement continued to lead the list of companies in terms of turnover, number of transactions, and number of shares traded. Shares worth Rs 198.95 million of the cement producer were exchanged on the day.

Shares worth Rs 1.97 billion were traded in the secondary market through 36,568 transactions on the day. The total market capitalization reached Rs 2.77 trillion.
