KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index tanked 28.31 points to close the week’s first trading day at 1,838.49 points.
This is the Nepse index’s sixth loss in the past seven trading sessions. The benchmark index has lost 80.94 points over the period.
The market opened for trading at 1,867.47 points on Sunday. Although the benchmark index nominal gains initially, it went on a free fall thereafter hitting an intra-day low of 1,834.48 points before eventually closing 1.52% lower.
All the trading groups ended the day in the red with the maximum loss coming from the Hydropower index which was down by 2.35%. Next on the list were Life Insurance and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices which ended the day 1.92% and 1.82% lower.
Nabil Bank Ltd led the listed companies in terms of turnover as Rs 57.85 million worth of shares of the Class ‘A’ bank were traded on the day. Next on the list were Shivam Cements and Himalayan Distillery Ltd with turnovers of Rs 57.84 million and Rs 34.75 million, respectively.
A total of Rs 3.84 million units of shares of 268 scrips worth Rs 1.16 billion were traded in the secondary market through 29.239 transactions. Total market capitlaization fell to Rs Rs 2.66 trillion.
