Nepse gains 75.84 points; turnover at 11-month high of Rs 16.59 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index surged by 75.84 points on Thursday, the final trading day of the week, to close at 2,870.63 points.

With this rise, the index crossed the psychological 2,800-point mark for the first time since March 6. It also marked the highest closing level since March 3, when the index had settled at 2,876.66 points.

Daily turnover jumped by over Rs 3 billion from the previous day, reaching Rs 16.59 billion—the highest since August 27 last year, when turnover stood at Rs 18.46 billion.

Thursday’s gain was also the biggest single-day rise since October 1 last year, when the benchmark index had climbed 114.70 points.

Prices of 239 scrips increased during the session, while only nine declined. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd led in turnover with shares worth Rs 844.27 million changing hands. Butwal Power Company Ltd and Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 606.86 million and Rs 567.48 million, respectively.

All sectoral indices ended in the green. The ‘Others’ sub-index recorded the highest gain at 5.09%, followed by Investment (3.17%) and Life Insurance (3.14%).

A total of 38.63 million shares were traded across 141,434 transactions on the bourse during the day.
