KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted a gain of 69.80 points, closing trading at 2,727.58 points on Sunday.
This is the first time that the benchmark index closed above the 2,700-point level since December 11 when the market closed at 2,7115.71 points.
Unit prices of 202 scrips advanced during the session, while 37 declined and three remained unchanged. Share prices of seven companies hit the positive circuit of 10% on Sunday. NRN Infrastructure & Development logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 419.70 million worth of shares traded. Next were Shaptakoshi Development Bank Ltd and Sindhu Bikash Bank Ltd with turnovers of Rs 352.69 million and Rs 306.13 million, respectively.
All trading groups posted gains during the session. The Microfinance sub-index posted the biggest gains of 4.92%. Next were Non-life and Development Bank sub-indices with gains of 2.71% and 3.38%.
Daily turnover increased to Rs 12.95 billion as 24.84 million units of shares were traded during the session through 130,913 transactions – the highest since September 4 last year. Daily turnover is the highest since September 3 when the bourse recorded a turnover of Rs 13.4 billion.
As usual, Hydropower stock accounted for nearly half of the total daily turnover during the session. Shares of hydropower companies worth Rs 5.84 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday.
