KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its upward momentum, closing 64.67 points higher at 2,877.02 points on Thursday, the last trading day of the week.
The gain marked the index’s highest closing level since August 31 last year, when the Nepse index had settled at 2,922.63.
Nepse gained a nominal 13.51 points on Tuesday, while the market remained closed on Wednesday, which was designated a public holiday for Ghodejatra celebrations.
The index moved into the green right after trading began on Thursday morning and maintained strong momentum throughout the session to hit an intraday high of 2,882.25 points. Although the index pared some gains toward the close, it still ended the session 2.29% higher.
Unit prices of 240 scrips advanced during the session, while 22 declined and two remained unchanged. Ngadi Group Power Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 671.61 million traded during the session. National Hydropower Company Ltd and Ridi Power Company Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 669.06 million and Rs 626 million, respectively.
Market activity also surged, with total daily turnover reaching Rs 21.22 billion—the highest turnover recorded since August 27, when the bourse logged transactions worth Rs 25.95 billion. A total of 56.92 million scrips were traded on the bourse on Wednesday through 191,251 transactions.
All 13 trading groups posted gains on Thursday. The biggest gain came from the Development Bank sub-index, which was up 3.95%. Next were Banking and Life Insurance sub-indices with gains of 3.16% and 2.76%, respectively.
