KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a three-day losing streak, posting a gain of 62.54 points on Sunday—the first trading day of the week.
The market opened for trading at 2,681.59 points and posted a gain of 2.33% to close at 2,738.06 points. This is the first time since October 17 that the benchmark index has closed above the 2,700-point level.
Share prices of 228 companies advanced during the session, while 13 declined, and three remained unchanged. Sanima GIC Insurance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 380.43 million worth of shares traded. Next were Samriddhi Finance Company Ltd and Ngadi Group Power Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 270.32 million each.
Unit prices of three scrips hit the upper circuit limit of 10%, while six others posted gains of more than 9%.
All trading groups ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Hydropower sub-index, which was up by 4.26%. Next were the Development Bank and Investment sub-indices with gains of 2.71% and 2.56%, respectively.
Securities worth Rs 9.77 billion changed hands on the bourse through 100,751 transactions on Sunday. This is the highest daily turnover since September 15, when the bourse logged transactions worth Rs 10.10 billion.
