KATHMANDU: The market extended its gaining streak for a fourth straight session, as the benchmark Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) ended 58.55 points higher at 2,211.24 points on Tuesday.
Although the index dropped to an intra-day low midway into trading, it gained momentum thereafter to eventually end the session 2.85% higher. Nepse has accumulated 103.52 points over the past four sessions.
Share prices of 220 companies advanced on the day, while 22 declined and four remained unchanged. Investors were after Microfinance stocks as share prices of five microfinance companies hit the positive circuit of 10% on the day. Shivam Cement logged the highest turnover of the day with shares worth Rs 371.93 million traded. Sonapur Minerals and Oil Ltd and Sun Nepal Life Insurance Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 240.96 million and Rs 165.22 million, respectively.
All the trading groups posted gains on the day. The biggest gain came from the Life Insurance sub-index which was up by 5.44%. Microfinance and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices were next with gains of 5.05% and 3.93%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 4.55 billion were traded on the secondary market through 82,746 transactions, while market capitalization reached Rs 3.31 trillion.
