KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index gained 52.36 points, closing trading at 2,665.45 points on Wednesday.
The benchmark index started moving on a green trajectory right after trading began on Wednesday morning. It continued the momentum throughout the session and eventually closed 2% higher.
Daily turnover increased to Rs 9.2 billion—the highest since December 2—with 90,696 units of shares traded through 17.69 million transactions.
Share prices of 196 companies advanced, while 37 declined and nine remained unchanged during the session. NRN Infrastructure & Development logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 613.64 million worth of shares traded. Next were Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 412.94 million and Rs 319.69 million, respectively.
Investors were after hydropower stocks on Wednesday as Rs 2.62 billion worth of securities of hydropower companies changed hands on the bourse. Development banks and investment companies also witnessed substantial trading during the session.
All trading groups posted gains on Wednesday. The biggest gain came from the Others sub-index, which was up by 4.24%. Next were Investment and Development Bank sub-indices with gains of 3.82% and 2.74%, respectively. The market heavyweight Banking sub-index also posted a 1.32% gain.
