Nepse gains 44.25 points; turnover falls to Rs 4.97 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed 44.25 points higher at 2,547.60 on Monday.

The benchmark, which had come close to slipping below the psychological 2,500-point mark on Sunday, rebounded to post a 1.76% gain, despite dipping to an intra-day low of 2,479.36 points within minutes of the session’s opening.

Unit prices of 200 scrips advanced during the session, while 44 declined and eight remained unchanged.

Three stocks — Nepal Micro Insurance, Nepal Reinsurance Company and Crest Micro Life Insurance — hit the positive circuit of 10% during the session, while two others — Emerging Nepal and NRN Infrastructure & Development — saw their share prices rise by around 10%. In contrast, Corporate Development Bank recorded the sharpest decline, with its share price falling 5.26%.

Although the benchmark ended the session in the green, the total transaction amount declined compared to the previous session. Shares worth Rs 4.97 billion were traded on the bourse on Monday through 48,836 transactions, compared to a total turnover of Rs 6.7 billion in the previous session.

NRN Infrastructure & Development topped the turnover chart, with Rs 319.1 million worth of shares traded. Next were Nepal Reinsurance Company and KBL Debenture 2090 with turnovers of Rs 260.77 million and Rs 244.52 million, respectively.

All 13 trading groups closed the session in the green. The Others sub-index posted the highest gain of 5.01%. The Hotels & Tourism and Trading sub-indices were next with gains of 3.5% and 2.81%, respectively.
