KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) posted gains after two straight trading sessions of loss, finishing Tuesday’s trading 32.72 points higher at 2,182.11 points.
The market opened for trading at 2,149.39 points. Though the benchmark index hit an intra-day low of 2,137.29 within 15 minutes of trading, it gained value thereafter to reach an intra-day high of 2,186.58 before ending the day 1.52% lower.
Except for Banking which fell by a nominal 0.32%, all trading groups posted gains on the day. The maximum gains came from Hotels & Tourism sub-index which was up by 5.12%, followed by Hydropower and Finance sub-indices which gained 5.04% and 3.6%, respectively.
Shares of Api Power Company Ltd were high in demand as Rs 232.60 million worth of shares of the hydropower company changed hands on the day. Next on the list were Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Ltd and Ngadi Power Group Ltd with total turnovers of Rs 113.84 million and Rs 104.85 million, respectively.
A total of 11.88 million units of shares worth Rs 3.73 billion were traded in the secondary market through 63,430 transactions on Tuesday. Total market capitalization reached Rs 3.15 trillion.
