KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index returned to winning ways on the first trading day of the week, posting a gain of 31.62 points to end the day at 2,120.62 points. The benchmark index had snapped a three-day losing streak to post a nominal loss of 0.62 points on Thursday.
The market hit the green trajectory right after trading began on Sunday and continued the momentum throughout the session to ultimately close the day 1.51% higher. This is the first time in three weeks that the Nepse index breached the psychological 2,100-point mark after 13 trading sessions. Nepse had last closed above the 2,100-point mark on December 21.
Share prices of 211 companies advanced, while 33 declined and three remained unchanged during the session. Share prices of 11 companies hit the positive circuit of 10% on the day. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd Promoter Shares were the most-traded scrip on the day with a turnover of Rs 356.83 million. Next on the list were Sonapur Minerals & Oils Ltd and Hathaway Investment Nepal Ltd with turnovers of Rs 240.31 million and Rs 118.31 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, all sub-indices, except Hotels & Tourism and Trading, which posted nominal losses, ended the day in the green. The biggest gain came from the Hydropower sub-index, which was up by 4.58%. Next on the list were Others and Microfinance groups, which gained 2.77% and 1.96%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 5.45 billion were traded on the bourse as 16.60 million units of shares changed hands on Sunday.
