KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index returned to its winning ways, posting a gain of 28.38 points to close at 2,077.76 points on Sunday. The benchmark index had suffered a loss of 39.32 points over the past two trading sessions.
The market opened at 2,050.36 points and quickly moved into positive territory, reaching an intra-day high of 2,085.23 points within an hour of tradng. However, the market moderated slightly thereafter and eventually closed 1.38% higher.
All trading groups experienced gains on the day. The Hotels & Tourism Index recorded the highest gain, rising by 4.63%. Following closely were the Trading and Others sub-indices, which saw gains of 4.01% and 2.75%, respectively.
Himalayan Life Insurance logged the highest turnover of the day, with shares worth Rs 186.07 million being traded. Shivam Cement and Soaltee Hotels Limited followed closely with turnovers of Rs 163.76 million and Rs 140.25 million, respectively. Similarly, NMB Bank had the highest number of shares traded (393,197), while Modi Energy Ltd led in terms of the number of transactions (15,044).
Shares worth Rs 3.04 billion were traded on the secondary market on the first trading day of the week through 73,446 transactions.
