KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its winning streak to the fourth straight session, posting a gain of 27.75 points on Sunday.
Despite initial hiccups on the first trading day of the week, when the market dropped to an intra-day low of 1951.78 points, the market recovered as the day progressed and eventually ended the day 1.39% higher.
Unit prices of 185 scrips advanced on the day, while 52 declined, and four remained unchanged. Share prices of 11 companies hit the positive circuit of 10% on the day, reflecting positive investor sentiment in the market. Himal Dolakha Hydropower Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day, with shares worth Rs 251.29 million traded. Next on the list were Sonapur Oil and Minerals Ltd and Reliable Nepal Life Insurance Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 166.55 million and Rs 161.54 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, three sub-indices posted a nominal loss, while all other sub-indices posted gains. The highest gains came from the Hydropower sub-index, which was up by 5.55%. Following next were Investment and Development Bank sub-indices with gains of 3.12% and 2.65%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 5.15 billion were traded on the floors of Nepse on Sunday. This is the first time that daily turnovers have gone above the five-million-rupees mark since July 2 when securities worth Rs 5.01 billion had changed hands.
