KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted a 12.03-point gain and closed trading at 2,761.86 points on Monday after shedding 69.27 points over the past two sessions.
Although the benchmark index posted a sharp loss initially, reaching an intra-day low of 2,742.77 points, it recovered as the session progressed to eventually end the session 0.43% higher.
Unit prices of 143 scrips advanced during the session, while 106 declined and two remained unchanged. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd topped the turnover chart with Rs 280.82 million worth of shares traded. Next were Everest Bank Ltd and Himalayan Distillery Ltd with turnovers of Rs 244.48 million and Rs 218.11 million, respectively.
Despite the gain, turnover fell to Rs 5.10 billion with 11.44 million units traded through 68,775 transactions.
All trading groups, except for Others and Trading sub-indices which posted marginal losses, posted gains on Monday. Banking was the biggest gainer as its sub-index inched up by 1.5%. Next were the Development Bank and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices with gains of 0.52% and 0.43%, respectively.
