Nepse fails to sustain Sunday’s growth, ends 15.4 points lower

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index experienced some corrections after a whirlwind session on Sunday, as the benchmark index closed 15.40 points lower at 1,948.57 points on Monday.

Trading was possible for only a few minutes on Sunday as circuit breakers were triggered after the benchmark index posted a growth of 6% on the day.

The unit prices of 81 scrips advanced on Monday, while 157 declined, and three remained unchanged. Circuit breakers were enforced on the trading of four securities – Bottlers Nepal Ltd, Samudayik Laghubitta Bisttiya Sanstha Ltd, Dolti Power Company Ltd, and Hathway Investment Nepal Ltd – after their prices went up by 10% during the session. Sonapur Minerals and Oil Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day with Rs 251.56 million worth of shares traded. Reliable Nepal Insurance and Citizen Life Insurance were next with turnovers of Rs 165.76 million and Rs 145.67 million, respectively.

Nine trading groups ended the day in the red, while four trading groups ended the day higher. The Mutual Fund sub-index registered the highest growth of 2.16%, while the Development Bank index registered the highest drop of 2.09%.

Shares worth Rs 4.84 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday – the highest since July 2 when Rs 5.01 billion worth of shares had changed hands.
