KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its downward trend on Wednesday, shedding 20.31 points to end the penultimate trading day of the week at 2,025.12 points.
The benchmark index logged a loss of 31.8 points on Tuesday. This is the third instance that the Nepse index closed in the red in four trading days this week.
Trading began on Wednesday with the benchmark Nepse index at 2,044.5 points. The index lost values throughout the session to ultimately end the day 0.99% lower.
All trading groups ended the day with losses, with the Hydropower index suffering the biggest decline of 1.85%. Following closely were the Manufacturing & Processing and Finance sub-indices, recording respective losses of 1.58% and 1.35%.
While the unit prices of 34 scrips advanced on the day, 185 declined, and six remained unchanged. Himalayan Distillery Limited registered the highest turnover of Rs 84.15 million, trailed by Shivam Cement and IME Life Insurance, with shares worth Rs 71.47 million and Rs 59.66 million, respectively, traded.
The daily turnover dropped below the Rs 2 billion mark on Wednesday, as shares amounting to Rs 1.65 billion were traded on the bourse—a two-week low.
