Nepse extends losses to fifth session; turnover drops to Rs 7.24 billion

KATHMANDU: The market continued its losing run for a fifth straight session as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) closed the session 13.09 points lower at 2,632.94 points on Tuesday.

Although the benchmark index posted gains initially, reaching an intra-day high of 2,688.03 points, it started sliding after the hour’s mark and eventually closed trading 0.49% lower.

Unit prices of 169 scrips declined on the day, while 67 advanced and nine remained unchanged. Hydropower Investment and Development Company (Promoters) logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 298.15 million worth of shares traded. Next were Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and CEDB Hydropower Development Company with turnovers of Rs 217.63 million and Rs 203.45 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, 11 posted losses, one posted nominal gains and one remained unchanged. The biggest loss came from the Finance sub-index which was down by 0.99%. The trading sub-index posted a nominal gain of 0.79%.

Daily turnover fell to Rs 7.24 billion on Tuesday. A total of 19.07 million units of securities were traded through 93,459 transactions on Tuesday.
