Nepse extends losses into fourth straight session

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing run into the fourth straight session, closing 11.49 points lower at 2,688.31 points on Sunday.

Although the benchmark index posted gains in the early trading, breaching the psychological 2,700-point level to reach the intra-day high of 2,725.97 points, it fell about the hour mark and eventually closed the session 0.42% lower.

The Nepse index has shed 41.69 points over the past four sessions. Daily turnover also fell to Rs 8.39 billion compared to Rs 9.09 billion in the previous session. Turnover volume and the number of transactions also fell compared to the previous session.

On Sunday, unit prices of 167 stocks fell, 68 advanced, and six remained unchanged. NRN Infrastructure and Development had the highest turnover of the session, with Rs 311.68 billion worth of shares traded. Next were CEDB Holdings Ltd and Central Finance Company Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 306.28 million and Rs 200.70 million, respectively.

The sub-indices of four trading groups posted nominal gains, while nine ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Development Bank sub-index which was down by 1.35%. Next were the Others and Life Insurance sub-indices with losses of 1.3% and 0.76%, respectively.
