Nepse extends loss to fifth straight session

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) continued its losing run to fifth straight day, logging a loss of 30.77 points to close at 1,938.25 points on Sunday.

The benchmark index has registered gains in only two of the past 14 trading sessions, losing 244.39 points.

The market opened for trading after a two-day break with the benchmark index at 1,969.03. Although the market logged some gains in the initial trading, it continuously lost value thereafter to eventually close 1.56% lower.

Himalayan Distillery topped the listed companies in terms of turnover as Rs 84.41 million worth of shares of the liquor maker changed hands on the day. Next on the list were Shivam Cement and Asian Life Insurance Company (Promoter Shares) with total turnovers of Rs 54.81 million and Rs 34.50 million, respectively. Similarly, Shivam Cement led the listed companies in terms of shares traded as 120,136 units of shares of the cement producers changed hands on the day.

All the trading groups ended the day in red with the maximum loss coming from Manufacturing & Processing group which was down by 3.03%. Next on the list were Microfinance and Hotels and Tourism sub-indices which fell by 2.38% and 2.2%, respectively.

A total of 3.83 million units of 259 scrips worth Rs 1.39 billion changed hands through 30,903 transactions on the day. Total market capitalization reached Rs 2.80 trillion.
