KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index logged its fifth consecutive loss on Sunday, shedding 26.14 points to close the opening trading day of the week at 2,100.34 points.
The market opened for trading at 2,126.85. Although the benchmark index showed signs of recovery in the opening few minutes, it started shedding value thereafter to eventually end the day 1.22% lower.
With the exception of Mutual Fund, which posted nominal gains, all the trading groups recorded losses on the day. The Finance sub-index suffered the biggest loss of 2.32%, followed by Hotels & Tourism and Trading sub-indices, which fell by 2.08% and 2.07%, respectively.
Shivam Cement recorded the highest turnover of the day with shares worth Rs 147.97 million traded. Next on the list were Soaltee Hotel Limited and Everest Bank Ltd with total turnovers of Rs 119.91 million and Rs 102.06 million, respectively.
A total of 5.8 million units of shares worth Rs 2.43 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday.
