Nepse extends gains to sixth session; turnover falls to Rs 11.08 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted nominal gains of 3.35 points, closing trading at 2,758.75 points on Monday.

Although the benchmark index climbed to an intra-day high of 2,784.48 points during early trading, it erased all the gains and fell to an intra-day low of 2,747.13 points. A mini-revival in the closing minutes ensured that Nepse extended its winning run into a sixth straight session.

Despite the gain, unit prices of 145 companies declined, while 90 advanced and nine remained unchanged. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd continued to top the list of highest turnover with Rs 893.53 million worth of shares traded on Monday. Next were Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd and NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd with turnovers of Rs 806.71 million and Rs 449.47 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, four posted gains and the remaining nine ended the session in the red. The biggest gain came from the Others sub-index, which was up by 2.5%. Similarly, the Finance sub-index logged the biggest loss of 1.21%.

Turnover fell slightly compared to Sunday, as Rs 11.08 billion worth of shares were traded on the bourse on Monday through 103,262 transactions.
