Nepse extends gains into fifth session

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its winning streak to a fifth consecutive session on Tuesday, closing 23.83 points higher at 2,960.40 points.

Although the index slipped in early trading and stayed in negative territory for most of the session, a late surge lifted the benchmark to close 0.81% higher.

Investor sentiment remained broadly upbeat, as unit prices of 136 scrips advanced during the session, while 117 declined and 11 remained unchanged.

Trading activity also remained robust, with shares worth Rs 14.84 billion traded through 126,947 transactions.

Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 674.38 million worth of shares traded. Api Power Company Ltd and Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company Ltd (Promoter Share) were next Rs 578.74 million and Rs 457.07 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, eight posted gains, and the remaining five ended the session in the red. The Trading sub-index posted the biggest gain of 9.12%. Next were the Development Bank and Hydropower sub-indices with gains of 1.38% and 1.32%. Similarly, Micorinfinane posted the biggest loss of 0.45%.
