KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak to a sixth consecutive session, slipping 3.02 points to close at 2,606.67 on Monday.
The decline matched the market’s longest losing run since September 18, when the benchmark index had also fallen for six straight sessions.
Although the Nepse index opened lower, a brief pullback after the one-hour mark had raised investor expectations that the market might close in positive territory. Those gains were short-lived, however, as the benchmark gradually reversed and ended the day 0.11% lower. With the latest loss, Nepse now sits precariously close to breaching the psychological 2,600-point threshold.
Market breadth remained weak on the week’s second trading day as the prices of 147 scrips declined, 99 advanced, and 12 were unchanged. Turnover also fell to Rs 4.66 billion, with 10.14 million shares traded across 83,273 transactions.
Ngadi Group Power Ltd posted the highest turnover of the session with Rs 558.66 million worth of shares traded. Sagar Distillery and Pure Energy followed with turnovers of Rs 239.76 million and Rs 97.69 million, respectively.
Four trading groups registered marginal gains, while the remaining nine ended the session in the red. Manufacturing and Processing sub-index posted the biggest gain of 0.61%, while Banking sub-index recorded the sharpest drop of 0.67%.
