Nepse down by 59.02 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index declined by 59.02 points, closing trading at 2,529.33 points on Monday.

Although the Nepse index had posted gains on Sunday after ending a three-day losing streak, the market failed to maintain momentum and recorded a heavy loss. Share prices of 229 companies declined during the session, while 14 advanced and one remained unchanged.

Nepal Finance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session, with shares worth Rs 211.34 million traded. Next were CEDB Hydropower Company Ltd and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 133.95 million and Rs 125.25 million, respectively.

All sub-indices posted losses during the session. The biggest loss came from the Finance sub-index, which was down by 5.56%. This was followed by the Trading and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices, with losses of 3.93% and 2.24%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 5.66 billion were traded on the bourse through 77,153 transactions during the session.
